DULLES, VA, Sep. 25, 2002 -- This Fall Dulles Town Center, the Washington area’s newest super-regional mall, opened its fifth anchor department store – a new 144,000 square foot Nordstrom. Just 17 months after the grand opening of the mall, developer Lerner Enterprises began this expansion.
The Dulles Town Center Nordstrom (NYSE: JWN) joins Hecht’s, Lord & Taylor, JCPenney and Sears at the popular, high-profile suburban mall. "We are thrilled to add Nordstrom, one of America’s premier fashion specialty department stores, to Dulles Town Center," said William Winterburn, Director of Retail Leasing at Lerner Enterprises. "Dulles Town Center is working to make additional shopping choices available to our Northern Virginian clientele." Nordstrom is positioned at the end the mall’s new two-level 60,000 square-foot wing.
Katy Banks, Vice President for Nordstrom’s Mid-Atlantic Region, echoes the sentiment. "Nordstrom is pleased with the opening at Dulles Town Center," she said. "We’re excited to join this project and expand our service to customers in the greater Washington, D.C. area. We invite both new and existing customers to visit us at Dulles Town Center and see what we have done."
The 1.4 million-square-foot Dulles Town Center mall is co-owned by Lerner Enterprises and Connecticut General Life Insurance Company (CIGNA). The center opened in August 1999 and features over 130 specialty shops including Abercrombie & Fitch, The Gap, The Disney Store, Banana Republic, Eddie Bauer and Old Navy; The Eatery, an extensive food court and an outdoor Restaurant Park. According to Winterburn, since its opening, Dulles Town Center has produced strong sales performance figures, far surpassing projections. The mall is located in the heart of Loudoun County, which in June of 2002 was ranked the 3rd most affluent county in the nation by The Washington Post. It has also been recently ranked as America’s third fastest growing county. "This combination of growth and affluence has contributed greatly to Dulles Town Center’s success," Winterburn said. |
